A number of case studies have been prepared on approaches to dealing with timber transport.
Some projects supported by the Strategic Timber Transport Scheme have been highlighted in the Forestry Commission Scotland leaflet Improving Timber Transport and in six more detailed case studies. There is also a case study covering the Timberlink shipping service from Argyll to Ayrshire.
The Forum has published two more timber transport case studies, one on Cam Forest in the Yorkshire Dales and another on the Cwm Henog to Esgair-Dafydd Haul Road serving Tywi Forest in Wales.
The Scottish and UK Government’s Freight Best Practice series produced case studies on:
- Innovation in Scottish Timber Haulage Tyre Pressure Control Systems
- Highland Waterborne Freight (featuring the floating piers)
- Achieving Supply Chain Efficiency through Backloading and Multi-modal Transport (featuring Kronospan’s haulage logistics and rail freight of roundwood.)
