The current annual timber harvest in Scotland is around 7m tonnes mostly moving on 44-tonne lorries on public roads, which results in millions of litres of diesel being combusted annually However, The GB timber haulage industry has begun its journey to net zero carbon; an ambition that is underpinned by the UK Government’s commitment to cease the sale of new diesel HGVs by 2040, and by the Scottish Government’s aspiration for the total decarbonisation and future proofing of timber transport.
