The Cumbria and North East England Timber Transport Group was formed in 2011 to promote dialogue between the timber industry and the local authority over the use of public roads by timber traffic.

In 2021 the North East England Timber Transport Group was merged with the Cumbria Group. The group covers Cumbria, Northumberland and Durham local authority areas. In April 2023 Cumbria County Council was abolished along with the six District Councils and in its place two new Councils were created: Cumberland Council and Westmorland & Furness Council.

The Agreed Routes Map for the region was launched in September 2014.
