The Highland Timber Transport Group was formed in the mid 1990s and covers the Highland Council area.

The group meets every 4 – 6 months.

The objectives of the Group are to:

  • Address timber transport issues in the Highland Council area and liaise with other similar groups to find common solutions to problems
  • Update timber traffic surveys at approximately three year intervals; review and revise agreed routes for timber haulage maps as required
  • Explore and promote the potential for increased use of rail transport, including the development of additional rail terminals
  • Explore and promote the potential for increased use of sea transport
