The Forum works to be well informed and to influence policy makers and decision takers at national, regional and local levels.
The Scottish Government Freight Team, Scottish Forestry, Forestry Commission England and Natural Resources Wales all contribute to the Forum, highlighting policy direction and developments.
The Forum has engaged with ministers in Scotland, England and Wales, particularly to promote the need for dedicated funding to develop timber transport infrastructure.
The Forum responds to relevant government policy consultations aiming to ensure that policies support or at least do not hinder sustainable haulage.
The Forum is informed and represented in relevant policy by its Forum partners including the RHA (Road Haulage Association), SCOTS (Society of Chief Officers of Transport Scotland), Confor (Confederation of Forest Industries), FCA (Forestry Contractors Association), the Rail Freight Group, COSLA (Council of Scottish Local Authorities), and the Scottish Forest and Timber Technologies Advisory Group.
The TTF’s Regional Timber Transport Group meetings are attended by local authority staff and often by elected councillors. There is close liaison with regional transport partnerships in Scotland and Wales and with development agencies such Scottish Enterprise and the Local Enterprise Partnerships in the north of England.
