The TTF’s biannual conference was held on March 25th 2022, having been postponed since 2020, and was a much-welcome opportunity to meet colleagues in person once again. There were nine presentations and three Q&A sessions. Decarbonisation of the timber haulage sector was a feature of several presentations at this year’s conference. Other topics included quantifying windblow from storms in 2021, CPC+F forest haulage training, managing in-forest infrastructure, and auto-tensioning timber straps. The presentations were all excellent. Questions from the audience inspired discussion and occasionally put the presenters through their paces.
The three-course meal the evening before provided an opportunity for a blether and to make new connections. Neil Stoddart generously shared some of his tasty home-made hazelnut liqueur, and some hardy souls stayed up until around 3am chatting in front of the hotel’s log fire but looked remarkably fresh the next morning.
Volvo Truck and Bus Centre North & Scotland kindly sponsored the conference again this year and provided a much-admired FH16 750 tractor unit which was parked outside the hotel.
